Another year is well underway at the Racing Academy. The
class of 2013 / 2014 are in the 14th week of the course and are finished the first of three semesters.
They have been busy training in the yard and out on gallops,
improving their riding and stable management. Some have already started work experience and all is going well for them so far.
The afternoons are
dedicated to class work and during this time they have been setting aside some of
this time to write about their experience of the course over that past 14 weeks..
We hope that you enjoy reading about the individual experiences
of the new Trainees.
MEET THE TRAINEES - Robert Webster
My name is Robert Webster.
I am 18 years old. I’m am
from Castlebrige, Co. Wexford. I have had an interest in horse since I was about 9 years old, going to race meetings around the south east. I first got up on a horse when I was 16, did
lessons in a riding school and did work experience at
Ballytramin Equestrian riding school. I then got a experience at Myles
Sunderland Racing, mucking out and riding
two ponies he has and
going racing. I still ride out at Myles Sunderland racing.
I was told about RACE by one of
the jockeys at Myles’s yard. I applied and got my date for the trial. I was nervous on the trial. I did not know anyone there.
It was great I got picked for the course. I am learning so much and I am having a great
time.
My favorite jockeys would be Johnny Murtagh and Michel Fogarty.
